Health, Taxes & Indie Gaming

I know its been awhile sense my last written blog but, there has been a lot going on in my life. Sometimes you have to put things aside to make room for it all. As my blog is casual, thats what I chose to put aside. I also have several photo galleries from events I attended recently to add (time permitting).

My health has been a on going issue as of late. For the last two months I’ve had a bronchial infection in my lungs and throat. Due to the nature of the infection, the doctor informed me, I have to let the illness work its way out of my system so, no anti-bionics. Its been a frustratingly slow process. I’ve had to change my diet completely, can’t do heavy physical activity and get as much rest as possible. I’m getting better but, can’t seem to completely shake it yet. The ever changing Los Angeles weather hasn’t helped matters.

The diet change has actually has a positive effect. No more diet soda and minimal junk food. Now its Green Tea or Lemon Tea with Ginger and water. I feel less “heavy” inside since the change.

This is surprisingly tasty

Tax time came and went. Luckily I am getting money back, which is a bonus and a relief. Most of it will be going to pay off current debt and to create a nest egg to build a better savings account.

I’m thinking of using a small amount of the return to get equipment to begin video streaming on Twitch.tv (plus upgrade my internet to a cable connection). If everything falls into place, soon the world can see me suck at gaming live online.

Speaking of gaming, I have been playing Lone Survivor and Legends of Grimrock, two indie titles for the PC. What I like about indie games is that independent companies (or individuals) usually don’t have to jump through the hoops and red tape that most mainstream developers do when making a game. Indie developers are free to push boundaries without having to conform to what ever is selling to the mass market. They are in complete control of their creations and artistic vision. For better or for worse.

With the advent of Steam, Impulse, XBOX Live, Playstation Network and other services, its become much easier for independent developers to release their products, bypassing the big publishers completely. If you use any of these services, check out the indie section. You might be surprise at what you find.
